I love beer in any form. A great lover of real ales, I like it cold, dark, big head, golden, or warm. Whichever way it comes, a few pints with my mates down the pub can seem like nectar in paradise. However, I am talking here about drinking it. Apparently it is really good for hair loss if you through it over your head.
An interesting concept. Deliberately emptying a pint of beer over someone’s head is usually left to angry girlfriends or guys playing a prank on unsuspecting…friends.
But researchers have shown that as well as adding volume to hair beer also induces hair growth. The low acid levels in beer tighten hair follicles while removing hair and dirt at the same time.
It kind of brings a whole new meaning to “I can’t go for a drink tonight guys as I am washing my hair”
I must say it does seem to be a sad waste of my favourite waste of time. But let’s get things straight here. We are not talking pints of beer, nor the same cost. Even now shampoos are available which have beer as a main ingredient.
Because of the goodness that beer offers your hair, professionals suggest there three different ways in which you can use it to reduce the chances of hair loss and care for your hair generally:
The proteins found in beer will help to repair damage and also help your hair look thick and glossy. For a shampoo, mix a cup of beer (no, don’t drink the rest – you need to be sober while washing your hair!) with half a cup of shampoo. When used as a conditioner beer will soften the follicles and also give it a nice shine. For conditioner mix one cup of beer with jojoba oil. Massage the mixture into your scalp and leave your hair covered for about 45 mins for best results. Following this procedure, rinse your hair with plain water.
For that perfect rinse mix together 30ml of water, two teaspoons of cider vinegar, five drops of rosemary oil and 30ml of flat beer. Notice flat beer – that means you need to open it and let it go flat. (this method will certainly increase your sense of discipline!). Rub this solution through your hair after shampooing.
If you want to cut down hair loss – beer has got to be part of your toolkit. So whose round is it?
