Skalp® hair loss series: Prevention, treatment and enhancement

Part 3: Enhancement

In the previous two articles we have looked at preventing hair loss and where possible treating hair loss. In this article we are focusing on the scenario where there is no cure and you have to enhance your presentation:

Wigs and Toupees

Wigs and toupees have been with us hundreds of years. At one time they were the only way to hide away thinning hair and bald spots. In the 18th century they were high fashion and they would also be a symbol of status and achievement. Not so in the 21st century. It is very difficult to create a wig which has “no join” and moves naturally. Synthetic wigs appear too shiny and look false whereas real hair wigs can be very expensive. Due to their overuse – often for vanity reasons, they are regularly mocked in society, which is sad because many need them in respect of illnesses and hair loss complaints.

Hats

The cheapest and easiest way to hide away thinning hair, hair loss and bald patches and still remain firmly in fashion. However, it still comes with many problems such as having to buy a plethora of different hats for different occasions, a hat often looks out of place inside the house, the wind can cause havoc for hat wearers and sometimes well…they are just not appropriate to the social situation you may be in.

Hair loss concealers

There are some frighteningly bad ideas for hair loss on the internet and this is one of them. Basically you spray the chemical on to your scalp from about 4-6 inches above your head and create a nice hair line. Amazon suggests mixed reviews for this product. Some are pleased with results but others state how expensive it is, how difficult it is to match hair colour, it can be messy and does not always last as long as it says it will.

Scalp Micro Pigmentation

Scalp micro pigmentation is a medical hairline tattoo and is a treatment whereby natural pigments are applied to the epidermal level of the scalp to replicate the natural appearance of real hair follicles or strands.  So instead of living with thinning hair, the head is shaved and the scalp micro pigmentation treatment re-creates the hairline which has receded and gives the impression of a highly fashionable shaven head.  Now suddenly you are in style, and can attend to issues with your hair loss at the same time.

The difference between this solution and others mentioned before is it is permanent and it creates a “hairstyle” which is immediately in fashion. It is manageable, simple to look after and can make you look younger from day one. As an overall hairstyle it clearly suits men rather than women but the latter can also use it for conditions which create worrying bald spots.

Skalp® Micro Pigmentation offers a great service for people struggling with hair loss or who just want to join the bald fashion trend and look their very best. Trained practitioners apply pigments to the scalp so it appears as if you have a full head of hair – but cut fashionably short.

Skalp® have clinics around the world. We have clinics in New York, Los Angeles, London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Dublin, Marbella, Milan and Amsterdam.
