A new hair loss treatment is getting headline news across the pond. PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma therapy is in its infancy but it promises to offer individuals with thinning hair new hope. And let’s face it there are a lot of options out there offering solutions to an unsightly balding pate.

Here at Skalp we are not just bias when we say that Micro Pigmentation has to come top of the list. The feedback we receive from our contented and loyal customers tells us it is offering great assistance to people with hair problems on many levels. The key to the success of Micro Pigmentation is that it allows people with thinning hair to become fashionable instantly by creating a tattoo which mimics your hairline. For guys going bald, it is really in fashion and it gives the effect of having a shaven head – not a person who is losing their hair.

Micro Pigmentation can certainly be a great way to enhance your presentation and looks while you are looking at other treatments which may deal with your hair loss issues. It certainly beats the traditional methods of wearing a wig or Toupee.

Current treatments

Stopping or slowing down hair loss can be as easy as taking a look at your lifestyle and making a few changes. For instance it is well know that certain vitamins are likely to generate hair growth. Foods which are loaded with protein, omega 3-fatty acids, zinc, iodine and biotin are perfect for getting those follicles working again. Stress can also cause hair loss so ask yourself if the hairs on your pillow have been more prolific since you took that promotion.

Sometimes though hair loss is caused through illness which you have little control over and a visit to the GP is always useful to get an idea of exactly where you stand. Medication such as Minoxidil, Finisteride, Propecia and Regaine can offer varying degrees of success. Some are effective while with others (Propecia especially) there have been scary reports about unwanted side effects.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma therapy?

So a new treatment on the block is always welcome, but what exactly is PRP?

The first benefit is you do not need to take drugs, have surgery or pay for expensive treatments. The treatment is based on the fact that an individual’s blood contains platelets which contain growth factors that stimulate the re-growth and thickening of hair follicles. The patients’ blood is drawn and then entered into a machine which separates the platelets. The platelets are then injected directly into the scalp. Still in its primary stages scientists have said that this is not a cure for baldness but can prevent hair follicles from thinning out further.

Available in America, one session costs $400 and would take about 90 minutes. Doctors are recommending a treatment per month for the first four months and then two maintenance treatments per year.
