Taking care of your bald head

There are two types of client who visit us at Skalp® Micro Pigmentation. Those who are relatively new to sporting a shaven head and those who have had a bald head for some time either through choice or because of hair loss. Some clients have been very pleased with the mock up picture we provide on our website and are ready to make that leap of faith.

However long you have been bald you need to take good care of your scalp – so here are some essential tips for looking and feeling your best.

  1. You still need a good shampoo

Believe it or not you still need to use a shampoo because your hair is still growing (if only a very small amount!) But more importantly, a good shampoo will also clean the scalp of dirt and oils. Follow up the shampoo with a good moisturising conditioner.

  1. You still need to shave!

There are very few people who even with hair loss complaints lose their hair completely. The hair will always grow back to some degree. When you have shaved your scalp for Micro Pigmentation, your hair follicles are still going to be vibrant and alive. So you need to shave your head regularly so the Skalp™ effect always looks super cool.

  1. The best time to shave

A good idea is to shave your head at the end of a warm shower. The effect this will have is to soften any hair growth, open the pores and wash the skin. During showering rub a soapy cloth against the grain of growth – this will help with shaving.

  1. Mirror…razor…manoeuvre…

Make sure you have a hand mirror to help you shave the back of your head and shave in a room with good lighting so you get a nice even shave. You can use a clipper, but when growth is small you can also use a sharp razor. Try to keep to a routine in how you shave. Gliding the razor gently down the sides and back and from back to front on top is recommended. When finished check for missed areas by rubbing your hand gently over your head.

  1. Splash it all over!

Keep your scalp moisturised. After shaving, splash your head with cold water to close the pores and then pat your head dry. Finally add a good aftershave balm.

  1. Protect from the sun

Your scalp can be very vulnerable to the sunshine – so don’t forget to use sun screen when the weather is particularly good – or a hat can also be pretty stylish too!

  1. A massage to look forward to

Indian head massage is all the rage at the moment and it is true, it can be really relaxing and stimulating at the same time. But just a simple regular head massage (kneading and rubbing into the skin) can get the blood flowing beneath the scalp and encourages healthy hair growth for those who are trying.

  1. Talk to us!

Thinking of getting in style instead of struggling and perpetually hiding hair loss? Skalp™ offer the Micro Pigmentation process whereby tattoo pigments are used to mimic hair growth and your hairline. The result is the appearance of someone who has shaved their head but is not suffering from hair loss.
